Choose the Right Gate Wheel for Your Sliding Gate

Selecting the right gate wheel for your application can turn your sliding gate project into a long-term success — one that runs smoothly and protects your property for years to come. The correct wheel offers trouble-free service and peace of mind, especially when matched properly to your track and gate weight.

Use this guide to confidently select the right profile, bracket, and load rating for your gate.

Gate Wheel Profiles Explained

Gate wheels come in three main profiles — square, radius, and V profiles, each with unique advantages depending on your track type and gate setup.

V Profile

V-Track wheels are designed for round bar tracks, working best on Ø16mm or Ø20mm for heavier loads, and perform optimally on straight, bright-drawn material like EN3 (easy to weld) or tougher EN8 (ideal for heavy gates), offering low rolling resistance and natural self-cleaning.

Radius Profile

Radius Profile wheels are built for Ø16mm round tracks and offer deeper track engagement than V-profile wheels, making them harder to dislodge and ideal for security-focused gates, especially when paired with bright round bar and Rollock locking mechanisms.

Square Profile

Square Profile wheels offer the highest load capacity and lowest rolling resistance, fit 16mm or 20mm square bar depending on size, and are ideal for large, heavy, or high-traffic gates in complexes, commercial, or industrial settings — though they do require regular cleaning to avoid debris build-up.

Bracket Types: Ezi Mount vs Slimline

Rollaway gate wheels are available with two weld-on bracket options: Ezi Mount and SlimLine. While both are engineered for durability and long-term performance, they offer different benefits depending on your gate design and clearance requirements.

Ezi-Mount Bracket

The Ezi Mount bracket is a solid U-shaped weld-on frame that mounts the wheel below the gate, slightly raising it for added ground clearance, making it ideal for industrial, agricultural, and domestic use — especially where pet-friendly security is a priority.

Slimline Bracket

The SlimLine bracket uses two welded side plates to sink the wheel into the gate frame, allowing for lower ground clearance and larger wheels, while providing a clean, integrated look ideal for custom builds where aesthetics and function are equally important.

Choosing the Right Wheel Based on Gate Weight
